Where to go

Retreats in Sidemen & North Bali

A tranquil rural escape with the landscape Ubud had thirty years ago — and considerably fewer people in it.

In short

Sidemen sits east of Ubud under Mount Agung, and north Bali further still: both are quiet, rural and far less travelled, which is the whole reason to choose them.

  • The quietest of the four areas
  • Two to three hours from the airport
  • Fewest programmes, most seclusion

What it involves

What it is good at

A short list, and that is rather the point.

Seclusion

Valleys, rice terrace and very little traffic.

Landscape

Agung on one side, the river valley on the other.

Slowness

Nothing nearby to leave for, which changes how a week goes.

Know the distance

Sidemen is two hours from the airport and north Bali closer to three. That is a real cost on a short trip, and a real gain on a long one.

Below about eight days we usually suggest Ubud instead, and say so plainly.
