What to Expect on a Retreat

A day, and the arc of a whole week — written by people who have sat through both.

In short

Most retreats open with a personal wellness consultation, then settle into a daily rhythm of morning practice, guided sessions, holistic therapies, nutritious food and free time to reflect.

  • A consultation on day one, almost always
  • Two practice sessions on a typical day
  • Accommodation from eco guesthouse to villa

What it involves

A day, roughly

The pattern varies by retreat, but not by much.

Morning

Practice before breakfast, then the longest session of the day.

Midday

Food, and unstructured time. Most schedules leave the middle open.

Evening

A lighter session, a treatment, or a talk. Early nights are the norm.

The part people skip

Integration — what happens in the days after, and in the weeks once you are home — decides whether a retreat holds. It is also the first thing cut from a cheap programme.

We check that it exists before recommending anything, and say so when it does not.
